This week’s update features another great new HeroPress essay, a brand new Hallway Chats episode, a new Tip Of The Week, and more! Check it out!

Destiny Kanno

This week, Destiny Kanno from Tokyo, Japan writes about the three foundational pillars she uses to guide her life and career.

Using these as a starting point, even if what comes up doesn’t immediately surface something that could be a pillar, you’ll surely learn or get to acknowledge something about yourself that shapes your character and how you present in the world.

Destiny’s essay is available on HeroPress.com.

Hallway Chats

This week we play for the very first time an interview recorded last June at WordCamp Europe in Porto, Portugal.

Topher interviewed Vassy Valchanova about how she uses WordPress in her daily work as an international digital marketer.

Vassy’s essay is available at HallwayChats.com

HeroPress Tip Of The Week

Introduction to WordPress Roles

Every week we release a Tip Of The Week to help people get a better handle on WordPress, how it works, how to use it, etc.

This week’s Tip is about WordPress Roles. What are they? How are they used? All your questions will be answered!

WP Podcasts

There were sixteen WordPress podcast episodes released this week! That’s a lot of great conversation!

Additionally we have a brand new podcast this week, “Siegfried, deploy!“.

Dominik and Steffen are long-term friends, the founders of the WordPress agency Bleech – and total nerds when it comes to websites.

Here are a few highlights from other podcasts this week:

There are new ones every single day, so be sure to stop by WPPodcasts.com and search for things that interest you!

WP Photos

HeroPress is heavily involved in the WordPress Photos project. Here’s a selection of photos submitted by people from all over the world this week!

Be sure to check out the hundreds of other great photos!

Closing Thoughts – WordPress Certification

The idea of WordPress Certification has been around for a number of years. I well remember quite a few heated discussions on Twitter or Slack. Matt’s comments during the State of the Word seemed to renew interest (or maybe it was always there and I didn’t pay attention).

Both Eric Karkovac and Tom McFarlin both wrote excellent articles on it this week, I highly recommend you check them out.

CertifyWP is a new non-profit working to make WordPress certification a reality. Furthermore, they’re working hard to get the U.S. Department Of Defense on board to that American veterans can get WordPress certification to help them get jobs after leaving the military.

From the CertifyWP website:

In order for the Department of Defense to approve CertifyWP’s credential for WordPress, we need 50+ letters endorsing the belief that a standard in understanding and working in WordPress (basic, developer, designer, etc.) would be beneficial in hiring newly-trained and veteran WordPress users.

If you’re willing to help, you can either submit your own letter, or sign a form letter they offer. I did it, I think it’s a good idea. I’ll let you decide.

That’s it for this week! If you’d like to get this post in your email every week, make sure you sign up!
