(Re)Introducing WP-Wallpaper.com

Once upon a time (2014) someone cool (Alison Barret) built a cool website called wp-wallpaper.com. I loved it. I wished like crazy that I had built it. I’m a big fan of desktop wallpapers. I also wished I had the artistic skill to make them, but alas. I downloaded some and moved on.

Then in 2016 it changed hands, going to Nick Hamze! Once again I’d missed my chance to grab ‘hold of this domain and bend it to my will.

Last month I was thinking about the site, and remembered that a year or so ago Nick left the WordPress community, and probably wasn’t really maintaining the site at all. I found him on LinkedIn, asked if I could have the site, and without question he transferred the domain to me!

At last it was mine!

Reasoning

WP-Wallpaper.com fits the requirements we have for the HeroPress Network sites.

  • Easy to maintain.
  • Community populated.
  • Supports community camaraderie.
  • Enables community marketing.

Vision

Of course I’d love to see hundreds of wallpapers on there, we just need to get people excited about it. I’d like to see every WordCamp to submit at least one. It’s easy marketing, and they’re not hard to make. Already we have three for WordCamp Geneva, one for WordCamp Athens, one for WordCamp Montclair, and one for WordCamp Europe. If those same camps and artists make some for their Wapuus as well I think we can get a fair number of wallpapers up there.

I’m also excited to see some commercial wallpapers up there. WPEngine used to make some super cool t-shirts, I’m sure they could make some great wallpapers

If you have any inclination at all to make some, I do hope you’ll submit. I used David Wolfpaw’s excellent Creative Commons plugin to make it so you can release your wallpapers with any CC license. I hacked it a bit, but I’ll be pushing my code back to him.

Now please go visit wp-wallpaper.com.
